questions to ask on a date

About this site.

questionstoaskonadate.com is a hand-edited library of conversation prompts for first, second, and third dates, organised by the moment of the date you are in. The first ten minutes. Mid-meal. The walk back. The second-date shift. Twenty-five per moment, no fluff, no ads.

The editorial line

The dating-content industry produces enormous lists. One hundred and sixty questions, two hundred and seventy questions, the only list you will ever need. Almost all of them are filler, written for SEO rather than for the person about to use them on an actual date. The reader scrolls for thirty minutes and screenshots two questions they might use, and the screenshot is the part of the experience that mattered.

This site does the editing for you. About twenty-five questions per date moment, hand-edited, organised by the conversations that actually happen rather than by Pinterest categories. Every prompt earns its place. The prompts that did not earn their place are not on the page, and that absence is the value as much as the presence is.

What this site is not

Not a substitute for therapy. Not affiliated with any dating app, matchmaker, or coaching service. Not an authority on your specific dating life. A licensed therapist or couples counsellor will help with serious questions far better than any list of questions on the internet, and if you are navigating something heavy about dating or relationships, that is the place to go.

Not a research operation. The prompts are curated editorial. They are not the result of a survey of one thousand daters or any kind of formal research, and the site does not claim otherwise. The curation is opinionated, the voice is consistent, and the editorial position is named on every page that it shows up on.

The app, when it ships

The web shows the curated twenty-five per moment. The app, when it ships, will deliver two hundred more per moment, plus shuffle, save, a pre-date primer mode, and a turn-based prompt-and-answer mode for two people to play together. iOS first, with a small monthly or annual subscription and a free trial. The app is in development now and will arrive later this year. There is no email gate on this site, no popup, no newsletter. The app announcement, when it happens, will happen on this page.

The cluster

questionstoaskonadate.com is one of four sister sites covering the arc from pre-meet to long-term relationship.

Cross-links between the sites are in-sentence and editorial, never as nav farms. The four sites share an editorial voice without sharing components or templates, by design.

A note on voice

The voice on this site is third-person curatorial. There is no manufactured survey behind the prompts and no false claim of formal study, because no such survey or study took place. There is no first-person operator voice claiming results that are not real. The prompts are written by humans who have been on dates, edited carefully, and presented as the editorial team's curated set rather than as a research finding. If you would like to hear more about the editorial position, the books and frameworks that have informed it are referenced on individual pages where they apply, particularly the 36-questions page.

A small disclaimer

This site is independent and not affiliated with any dating app, matchmaker, or coaching service. Prompts are written by humans who have been on dates, not by clinicians or pickup-artists. If you are navigating something serious about dating or relationships, a licensed therapist beats any list of questions on the internet. Read more in the footer disclaimer on every page.
